When it comes to the things we build, the foundations we build on, and the materials we build with, the safety and success of the project is secured in the details. At Kaw Valley Engineering, we have the expertise and equipment necessary so that we can do whatever needs to be done to ensure that your project, building or bridge is safe and properly built.
Our engineering and technical staff are available to provide the construction materials testing services you need. Our staff keeps current on all certifications to provide the level of professional services expected. Our services include a full range of concrete, soils, aggregate, asphalt and steel testing (which is performed in compliance with applicable ASTM, AASHTO and COE requirements). Our laboratories maintain AASHTO and Corps of Engineers certifications.
Welding Inspection with NDT
Our staff includes American Welding Society certified welding inspections and non-destructive testing level III technicians. Our AWS-CWI technicians are available for observation of erection of steel structures, shop fabrication observation, certification of welders and general testing and review of steel elements associated with your project. NDT structural steel services include ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle and dye penetrant in house with radiographic service being coordinated with associated firms.
Special Inspection Services
The International Building Code allows local building officials to define the level of required inspections and we are staffed to provide all these inspections. Our special inspectors work under the direct supervision of the professional engineers within our materials testing department. The reporting protocol is developed for each specific project in accordance with the local building official requirements and the needs of the client. Our primary concern is to provide ongoing common communications ensuring any deviations are addressed timely and the project is completed in accordance with the project plans and specifications.
Local Public Authority Services (LPA)
We employ one of the largest Local Public Authority certified staffs in the Midwest. The staff is versatile in project administration, project inspection and required materials testing. Our staff is available for remote services, including field laboratories which may be placed for project sites within the Midwest.
KDOT Certified Bridge Inspections
We have been performing routine and emergency bridge inspection services for cities and counties since our inception in 1982. However, upon KDOT’s increased involvement with local bridge inspections in 2009, we began providing those services throughout Kansas. As part of the revamped KDOT Local Bridge Inspection Program, KDOT’s Bureau of Local Projects increased the oversight and expectations of routine annual and biennial bridge inspections. This included the development of a mandated scope of services and a web-based inventory database meeting FHWA requirements. Since the adoption of these requirements in 2009, we have performed nearly 950 routine bridge inspections for cities, counties and the State of Kansas.
We understand that every project has elements which are unique and require specialized testing services. Our engineers and technicians are experts at utilizing specialty testing equipment such as floor flatness and floor levelness evaluation, ground penetrating radar for evaluation of various construction elements such as bridge decks, voids under slab-on-grade and existence of reinforcing steel in hardened concrete, film thickness measurement and pretension installation verification testing. We are able to provide other specialty testing depending on your project specific needs. Please contact us to see how we can assist you with you specialty testing needs.
