Civil Engineering

Our civil engineers can provide the expertise needed to ensure the success of any project, whether it is land development, transportation design, storm water management, or wastewater coordination. We have a diverse team with diverse knowledge so that whatever your project requires, we can handle it.

Land and Site Development

At KVE, we provide land and site development services needed for developers, government entities, architects and contractors. We have provided services for many types of developments, including commercial, industrial, residential and mixed-use developments. We guide clients through platting and zoning to permitting and site design to utility coordination. We can provide the needed services for development from A to Z in the following:

  • Preliminary Site Investigations
  • Platting, Zoning and Annexation
  • Public Involvement
  • Utility Coordination and Design
  • Site Planning and Design
  • Building Permit Coordination
  • Value Engineering Services
  • Cost Estimating

Transportation Design

A good transportation system lies at the intersection between sound understanding of existing and future traffic demands and extensive design of streets, highways and bridges.  Our traffic engineers have worked for local, county and state government agencies, as well as developers to provide transportation design and planning services since our first day in business 30 years ago. From 4-lane divided highways, to rural gravel roads to all sizes of bridges and box culverts, our transportation team has developed plans for improvements in all aspects of transportation infrastructure. We develop workable solutions to mitigate the increase in traffic associated with the development of land or improvements to existing public infrastructure. We also have considerable experience with widening and reconstruction elements such as route alignments, geometrics, roadway grading and drainage, while being well-versed in pavement design and subgrade treatments. Our transportation team provides services for:

  • Highway Design
  • Local Street Design
  • Traffic Engineering
  • Signalization
  • Traffic Counts
  • Trails and Pedestrian Facilities
  • Railroad Crossings
  • Bridges
    • Design (Highway to Pedestrian)
    • Rehabilitation
    • Inspections
    • Load rating

Drainage and Storm Water Management

Communities have become increasingly sensitive to storm water impacts and the responsibility to manage these impacts in a comprehensive manner. We have provided storm water solutions to local, county and state government agencies, as well as the development community since 1982. We have extensive experience in formulating workable solutions to offset the increase in runoff associated with the development of land.  Our team provides our clients with comprehensive drainage studies, accurate hydraulic models and detailed construction plans for storm sewer systems, erosion control plans and channel improvements to manage storm water issues. Each project is unique due to location, land availability, and local storm water regulations and design requirements so each solution is tailored to suit our client’s project constraints and budget. Our services in this area include:

  • Storm Water Facility Design (sewers, channels and structures)
  • Hydrology and Hydraulic Analysis
  • Permitting

Utility, Water & Wastewater Coordination and Design

Utilities may not be exciting, but they are essential; managing water is one of our biggest strengths. A clean and safe water supply is critical to all communities and treatment of wastewater can be a lengthy permitting and oversight process. We can provide the knowledge and expertise to assist our clients with any utility design and coordinate issues to ease the permitting process. We routinely provide services to developers, architects and contractors, cities and counties, water and sewer districts and utility companies for the following:

  • Sanitary Sewer Systems
    • Gravity Systems
    • Lagoon Systems
    • Package Treatment Plants
    • Septic Systems
  • Water Distribution Systems
  • Permitting

Sustainable Design

At Kaw Valley Engineering, we support sustainable design and have a growing number of LEED® Accredited Professionals (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design). As civil engineers, we offer a diverse knowledge of storm water treatment and mitigation practices as well as construction materials, which invariably offer alternatives containing recycled options. We can develop a project site to efficiently use available space, reduce the disturbance of established vegetation, maximize green space, reduce heat island effect, provide an efficient parking design and harvest rain water, among many other green strategies. We encourage you to contact one of our LEED®  A.P. engineers to find out more about how we can help your project obtain LEED credits, or simply become more sustainable through the following:

  • LEED Design
  • Water Quality and BMP’s
  • Site Development
