The design and construction process is dependent on many different disciplines, all of which are essential to the outcome of the project. For over 30 years, Kaw Valley Engineering, Inc. has been the team of experts needed to help take a project from inception to completion, providing a full range of consulting engineering services all across the Midwest.
Expertise & Excellence
Anyone who is familiar with the design and construction process knows that the coordination of different disciplines involved in completing a project is just as intertwined as the actual components in a bridge or building itself. Our expert professionals are able to rely on knowledge in many fields to find a solution to anything that may arise during design and construction.
We provide Civil Engineering, Surveying, Geotechnical Engineering, and Construction Observation and Testing services across the Midwest. We provide these services to a variety of clients, including local, county and state governments, private developers, architecture and construction firms, educational institutions, utility providers and others. History of the Firm
Kaw Valley Engineering was established in 1982 by three founding partners in Junction City, Kansas.
The inspiration for our firm’s name sprouted from the location of the original office. Junction City is located at the beginning of the Kansas River while Kansas City falls at the end, forming the Kaw Valley. Founders Leon Osbourn, John Sheets, and Greg Christiansen decided this concept could be turned into a name.
“Most engineering firms use the owner’s names. We thought Kaw Valley was neat, even a little unique,” said Christiansen.
Our first office was a humble two-bedroom house. “You walked in through the living room and that was our reception area. The dining room was the drafting area. The two bedrooms were offices. The kitchen was our lab. On the back porch we had a concrete breaker,” said Christiansen.
That office was quickly outgrown, and we moved to where our headquarters is currently located, on Jackson Street in Junction City.
Since then, Kaw Valley Engineering has opened additional offices in Kansas City, Missouri, and Lenexa, Salina, Emporia, and Wichita, Kansas. Our firm has grown to more than 100 staff with capabilities to provide our full line of civil and engineering services throughout the Midwest.
“The achievement and growth of KVE is not due to any one person, but to all who have put in hours of hard work over our 30 years,” said Leon Osbourn, President.
